Working Thesis
The T-shape is not dilution. It is amplification.
Working thesis: for complex knowledge work, depth and breadth are not opposites. They are multiplicative.
Depth gives you standards. Breadth gives you leverage.
Without depth, breadth becomes trend-chasing. Without breadth, depth becomes locally excellent and systemically irrelevant.
The useful version of a T-shape is not “be good at everything.” It is:
- one domain where your judgement is hard to replace,
- several adjacent domains that make that judgement deployable.
In my case, learning innovation is the vertical. Product, UX, service design, data, and AI are the horizontal capabilities that let the vertical do real work in real organisations.
This is less a branding point and more an operating model. It changes how you scope projects, compose teams, and decide what to learn next.
